English Lit Coursework Essay
Look at the manners by which the creators present differentiating universes/places and their topical centrality in Othello and two different writings. In the entirety of the books; ââ¬ËOthelloââ¬â¢, ââ¬ËWuthering Heightsââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËThe Great Gatsbyââ¬â¢, the writers, Shakespeare, Bronte and Fitzgerald, show how differentiating universes upset balance, particularly the congruity or even chance of connections. A definitive interruption inside these writings is the boundary of class. In Wuthering Heights, Bronte thinks about the two houses; Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, to feature the separation class makes among Heathcliff and Cathy, by encapsulating the characters and their qualities in the symbolism of the houses. Wuthering Heights basically is a breaking down ranch house. Bronte speaks to Heathcliff with this house, itââ¬â¢s anaesthetically satisfying and disregarded, portrayed as ââ¬Ëa impeccable misanthropistââ¬â¢s heavenââ¬â¢, giving hermitic and barren undertones, mirroring the way Heathcliff gets remote from society and segregated. Then again, Bronte portrays Thrushcross Grange stupendously, ââ¬Ëcarpeted with crimsonââ¬â¢, ââ¬Ëcrimson secured seats and tablesââ¬â¢, this decision of shading gives rich implications, of a ââ¬Ësplendid placeââ¬â¢, The decision of lexis ââ¬Ësplendidââ¬â¢ giving a privileged tone . By and by neither of Cathy or Heathcliff appears to favor the lavish Thrushcross Grange. Bronte presents Cathy to be shallow now and again, yet when Cathy educates Nelly regarding her fantasies she clarifies that ââ¬Ëheaven didn't appear to be my homeââ¬â¢ and that she ââ¬Ëwoke up wailing for joyââ¬â¢ when she was flung ââ¬Ëinto the center of the heath on Wuthering Heightsââ¬â¢, Bronte utilizes this along these lines to imply that Cathy sees Wuthering Heights and the fields as her paradise. In like manner she needs the window open when sick at Thrushcross Grange; here Bronte upholds the subject of detainment and entanglement, in an outside world. Similarly Thrushcross Grange has consistently been an outsider and awkward spot to Heathcliff as we see when he decides to lament on the out avoiding grounds of Thrushcross Grange conversely with Edgar who remains inside. By the by Bronte relates Cathy, a Linton to be, to Thrushcross Grange, a universe of refinement and polish, praising Cathyââ¬â¢s own depictions as she develops into a woman So also to Wuthering Heights, Fitzgerald presents the correlation in class of two places, the structures of East and West Egg specifically. West Egg apparently is ââ¬Å"the less elegant of the two,â⬠ailing in traditional feel of refined and tasteful lodging domains. This is appeared by the reality Nickââ¬â¢s cottage is recklessly worked in the space between two manors, this paints a conspicuous picture of conflicting structures. While East Egg is ââ¬Ëglitteredââ¬â¢ with houses that are depicted as ââ¬Ëwhite palacesââ¬â¢ with very much kept yards, recommending all around kept, great quality individuals, over all setting a rich and extravagant scene. Never the less, the houses themselves are focused on more so in Wuthering Heights as they are the prevailing image of the two separate universes, though Gatsby focuses on the general public around East Egg and West Egg, so as to underline the distinction of the world Daisy and Tom possess in contrast with Gatsbyââ¬â¢s world. Fitzgerald makes the imagery of East and West Egg by deciding to rename Great Neck and Manhasset. West Egg is a position of recently rich settled go getters, many like Gatsby who are believed to have obtained a fortune short-term and brag this through luxurious houses. West Egg has a general dynamic quality appeared through ââ¬Ëspectroscopic gayetyââ¬â¢ with this Fitzgerald proposes a brilliant, vivid and enthusiastic way of life. East Egg anyway is a stylish piece of Long Island, where the well off relatives, of a past lucrative age, live. Interestingly with the West, they appear to be progressively pulled back from having fun and glad for their ââ¬Ëstaid nobilityââ¬â¢, except for a couple of omissions at Gatsbyââ¬â¢s parties. This absence of living for the second goes over additionally in the manner that they appear to need more in life in the East, yet have no aims of searching for it. Fitzgerald ridicules the ambitionless effortlessness of life that for instance is shown in Jordan and Daisyââ¬â¢s shallow discussion, ââ¬ËWe should design somethingââ¬â¢, ââ¬ËAll rightâ⬠¦ Whatââ¬â¢ll we plan? What do individuals plan? ââ¬Ë Similarly individuals need certifiable characteristics, everything depends on behavior and picture, a prime case of this is when Mrs Sloane welcomes Gatsby to dinner out of amiability yet doesnââ¬â¢t anticipate that him should really come. Similarly Shakespeare utilizes the topic of class, as an obstruction among Othello and Desdemona, yet dissimilar to Bronte and Fitzgerald, he shows the differentiation through the segregation drawn upon Othello. None the less, Shakespeare uses a correlation of two separate areas, Venice and Cypress. Shakespeare achieves a sensational tone in the play Othello using a variety of methods, for instance emotional incongruity. In like manner Shakespeare utilizes differentiating universes, for example the complexity among Venice and Cyprus, Venice is depicted to be a regarded root, it has a positive portrayal in the play, being the spot where Desdemona and Othello began to look all starry eyed at. Cypress then again is encircled in strife, portrayed as a ââ¬Ëwar-like isleââ¬â¢, an immediate correlation with Venice; it is additionally where Othello and Desdemonaââ¬â¢s love endures. The two nations are fundamental to Shakespeareââ¬â¢s examination between the universes of war and love and how Othello battles to discover a harmony between the two. ââ¬ËThe warlike moorââ¬â¢ experiences the contention between the jobs of being an unpracticed adoring spouse and a solidified military fighter. Heââ¬â¢s used to obviously an all male condition, a soldierââ¬â¢s way of life, uneducated in the household universe of females. He can manage the ââ¬Ëflinty and steel lounge chair of warââ¬â¢ yet is ââ¬Ëlittle blessââ¬â¢d with the delicate expression of harmony. Shakespeare devises Othelloââ¬â¢s exchange to show how he is progressively alright with language from the semantic field of war than pet monikers, calling Desdemona ââ¬ËMy reasonable Warriorââ¬â¢. Othello might be regarded for his military endeavors, after this is all we see him applauded for, no credit is given to the reality he is wedding Desdemona even their wedding festivity is imparted to a military festival. Considering this Shakespeare presents him especially as an untouchable, the main dark hero, he doesnââ¬â¢t qualify as a man of honor, and is remembered for society absolutely as he is a colleague of Brabantio and Cassio.

This stage occurs during adolescence between the ages of approximately 12 and 18. During this stage, adolescents explore their independence and develop a sense of self. Verywell / Nusha Ashjaee According to Erikson, people progress through a series of stages as they grow and change throughout life. During each stage, people face a developmental conflict that must be resolved to successfully develop the primary virtue of that stage. He was interested in how social interaction and relationships affect development and growth. Overview Psychosocial Conflict: Identity Versus ConfusionMajor Question: Who am I?Basic Virtue: FidelityImportant Event(s): Social Relationships What Is Ego Identity? One of the main elements of Eriksons psychosocial stage theory is the development of ego identity. It is the conscious sense of self that we develop through social interaction, which is constantly changing due to new experiences and information we acquire in our daily interactions with others. During the identity versus confusion stage, the conflict is centered on developing a personal identity. Successfully completing this stage leads to a strong sense of self that will remain throughout life. As they transition from childhood to adulthood, teens may begin to feel confused or insecure about themselves and how they fit into society. As they seek to establish a sense of self, teens may experiment with different roles, activities, and behaviors. According to Erikson, this is important to the process of forming a strong identity and developing a sense of direction in life. Development During the Adolescent Years Teen behavior often seems unpredictable and impulsive, but all of this is part of the process of finding a sense of personal identity. Parents and family members continue to exert an influence on how teens feel about themselves, but outside forces also become particularly important during this time. Friends, social groups, schoolmates, societal trends, and even popular culture all play a role in shaping and forming an identity. Those who receive proper encouragement and reinforcement through personal exploration will emerge from this stage with a strong sense of self and a feeling of independence and control. Those who remain unsure of their beliefs and desires will remain insecure and confused about themselves and the future. Resolving the crisis at this stage of development involves committing to a particular identity. This might involve committing to a career path, deciding what social groups to associate with and even developing a sense of personal style. Those who are successful develop fidelity, a psychological virtue characterized by the ability to relate to others and form genuine relationships.?? This ability plays an important role in the upcoming stage known as intimacy versus isolation. So, what happens to those who do not end up successfully forming an identity at this point in development? Kids who are not allowed to explore and test out different identities might be left with what Erikson referred to as role confusion. These individuals are not sure who they are or what they like. They tend to drift from one job or relationship to another, never really sure what they want to do with their lives. Instead of feeling a sense of personal cohesiveness, they are left feeling disappointed and confused about their place in life.

Culce Et Decorum Est and Anthem of the Doomed - 814 Words
ââ¬Å"Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion; it is not the expression of personality, but an escape from personality.â⬠Poetry throughout the ages has influenced change in society and given voice to controversial topics. Wilfred Owen influenced his nation and became a powerful and significant agent of change through his literature as he demonstrated throughout his poetry how war is not something to be glorified yet is a horrific injustice suffered by many. By analysing Dulce Et Decorum Est and Anthem Of The Doomed it can be said that Owenââ¬â¢s significant message is to confront the idea of glorifying war and the patriotic sentiment of trench warfare. The horrific betrayal the young soldiers suffered was a prominent aspect throughout the First World War. The powerful poems inspired from his experience as a young soldier register his criticism of Dulce Et Decorum Est Pro Patria Mori, meaning it is sweet and right to die for your country. During this time period, the media, politicians and songwriters praised the corruption that is war. Owen demonstrates through his poetry the propaganda that the media promoted war is. Through this poem Owenââ¬â¢s aim is to change civilianââ¬â¢s idea of war and to stop its glorification. The support and inspiration through Wilfred Owenââ¬â¢s poetry provided a voice for British soldiers and allowed them to recognise the true nature of war. Hitchcock Film Comparison Free Essays
Although they all are their own independent films, there are undoubtedly several similarities between many of Alfred Hitchcockââ¬â¢s workings. Despite that they all may have different plot, the differences between the films are not very significant. There are three different types of Hitchcockian films that were watched in class; a psychological thriller (i. We will write a custom essay sample on Hitchcock Film Comparison or any similar topic only for you Order Now e. : Rope, Rear Window), the unexpected action filled plot (i. e. North By Northwest, The Man Who Knew Too Much), and the mix of the two (i. e. : Thirty Nine Steps, Family Plot). The majority of Hitchcockââ¬â¢s action films consist of an unexpecting citizen who ends up on the run for his life and meets an attractive blonde along the way that he becomes romantically involved in. The other type of plot is a more slow paced psychological thriller that takes place in a very confined area. Of course there are chases, illegal activities done by the ââ¬Å"bad guysâ⬠, and complications with the romantic pair that keep the first type of film moving at a quick pace, and in the psychological thrillers there is generally a simplistic background given towards the beginning of the film while there is a monumental action that takes place that is followed by a slow but steady plot that builds up to itââ¬â¢s climax at the end of the film. From Rope to Family Plot the Hitchcockian directory style persists throughout the duration of the film grasping the attention ever so tightly of the audience and keeping them uncertain of what is to come until it actually arrives. After becoming a well renown director in the United Kingdom starting in 1921 with silent films and later moving up to ââ¬Å"early talkiesâ⬠, Alfred Hitchcock moved to Hollywood and became a United States citizen in 1956 in order to further his career. Even after becoming an American citizen, Hitchcock kept a ââ¬Å"British subjectâ⬠in his work whether or not it was intentional. With an active career that lasted over half of a century, Hitchcock wrote twenty-two titles, stared in thirty-six films, and directed sixty-six films. Because of all of his unique techniques and styles that allowed him to manipulate his audiences into feeling anything from anxiety, fear, empathy, and so on, Hitchcock made quite the name for himself and thus gained the nickname ââ¬Å"The Master of Suspenseâ⬠while his unique directorial style became known as ââ¬Å"Hitchcockianâ⬠. Hitchcock is now considered one of Britainââ¬â¢s greatest directors of all time and came in first in a 2007 poll of film critics in Britainââ¬â¢s Daily Telegraph which referred to him as ââ¬Å"Unquestionably the greatest filmmaker to emerge from these island, Hitchcock did more than any director to shape modern cinema, which would be utterly different without him. His flair was for narrative, cruelly withholding crucial information (from his characters and us) and engaging the emotions of the audience like no one else. â⬠Despite how well his work is thought of and remembered, Hitchcockââ¬â¢s career actually came to a painstakingly slow halt after the release of Family Plot. After over six decades of directing Hitchcock became unmotivated to direct due to how poorly people received his film Family Plot. Despite his despair, towards the end of his life, Hitchcock had been working on a script for another movie, The Short Night, a projected spy thriller, however it was never filmed due to his lack of motivation, his failing health, and his concern involving his wifeââ¬â¢s health. Much after his death, the script was published in a book concerning the final years of Alfred Hitchcock. When thinking back to any one of Hitchcockââ¬â¢s films, many seem to light up and immediately begin discussing which one of them was their favorites, why, and once they find out that someone that theyââ¬â¢re talking to hasnââ¬â¢t seen it, they begin to ever so anxiously describe itââ¬â¢s plot and just what makes it as good as it is. Whether or not Hitchcockââ¬â¢s films were as amazing as many consider them, there are undoubtedly many similarities between all of them. However, just because there may be some similarities, this doesnââ¬â¢t make any one of the films bad, it simply makes them similar. Many viewers seemed to like the consistency of being able to go out to the movie theater and watch whatever Hitchcockââ¬â¢s new film may have been without any concern of it being bad; without even being told about the plot, and simply knowing that it will be a quality film undoubtedly worked in Hitchââ¬â¢s favor. Going out and seeing any one of Hitchcockââ¬â¢s movies became like a game in a sense; everyone went in with certain expectations and things that they were both looking for and hoping for. Many found joy in trying to spot Alfred himself somewhere in the film towards the beginning of it whether it be amongst a crowd, walking away from the camera, or whatever it may be. In many ways being a fan of Alfred Hitchcock and seeing his films became more so of a social thing than anything; it gave people something to do and then later talk about with their friends and family. Whether or not this was Hitchcockââ¬â¢s intention, it worked and earned him the respect that he has to this day. As previously stated, one of the reasons that many liked the Hitchcockian films was because of their consistency, however from a criticââ¬â¢s standpoint decades after the hype of Hitchcock, this gives some room for negative assessments of his career and films as a whole. Just because some may have liked the consistency from film to film, certainly doesnââ¬â¢t mean that everyone does, others may consider it repetitive or even predictable if theyââ¬â¢ve seen some of his other work. For example, although many of Hitchcockââ¬â¢s films are considered to be quality films, when compared to his others, those same films may be less appreciated because their uniqueness is taken away due to their numerous similarities. North By Northwest is undoubtedly an amazing film that is filled with suspense, love, action, and hope for our hero, many would consider The Man Who Knew Too Much to be predictably similar. In both cases an innocent middle aged white U. S. itizen finds himself in the middle of a dangerous, complex, and legally taboo situation through no fault of his own. Both films are very similar in the roller-coaster of emotions that they put the audience through and leave them with the same feelings and emotions by the end of the film. The same is true for Rope and Rear Window however instead of an action packed romantic feature film, the audience is brought through the more dark and scary course of events that follow one or two main characters. With the psychological thrillers there is much more of a realistic and closer to home feeling rather than with the action films. The same is true for Psycho, so much so that most of those who watched it were left terrified, disturbed, and with an erie feeling about hotels for some time after. Just like Rope and Rear Window, Psycho takes place primarily in one location and is paced slowly but with a deep and dark plot that strikes fear and concern into the hearts of most who watch it. Despite the fact that most of his films fall into one of the two previously mentioned categories, there is of course the shade of grey in Hitchcockââ¬â¢s other films; they are the ones that have more of a mix of action and romance but also consist of psychological torment and suspense. There will always be comparisons between certain things, especially so if there is something as similar as the same director to begin with, however there are always exceptions and middle grounds that end up surprising those who think that they know exactly what to expect. Coming To America Essay Example For Students
Coming To America Essay Coming to the United States and meeting a tone of new people naturally include introducing oneself quite a number of times. I will happily introduce myself another time, however today is slightly different. Who introduce themselves and talk about their two faces? Nobody à ¦. but for the first time of my life, I will share with you through my writing, things that I never told anyone, things that Id like to keep to myself or things that I prefer forgetting. To start, my name is Sarah Neufcourt and I am from Ivry-sur-seine, a small peaceful town next to our capital, Paris. I spent five years of life there, and then moved to Toulouse, in the south of France. This is the place I care the most, maybe because the people I met were incredible. However, I moved again but further away, thousands of miles away, keeping those memories in my hearth. I still dont know if I made the right decision to come to Virginia. However, now I am a raising junior in Lee high school. What people see in me is only what I show them, the mask I created to hide under. I think I act differently depending with who I am. From the outside the first impression people have might be that I am shy, athletic, organize and not really girly. Furthermore, many people think that I am a genius but I am definitively not, it is just because I learned much more when I was in France. However, the more I know about you, the more you know about me and the closer you get to the real me. To be honest, I am actually talkative, girly when I want, not organize at all. I am friendly and sweet with the people I adore. This is the way I see myself but who knows it might be another picture that I formed. Even it is my real personality I think it develops itself as my life goes, so in a few years it might change. Things that I do also are parts of my personality. So I love to listen to music while looking at the clouds and remember my past. I enjoy playing sports, especially tennis. It is a hobby and a passion. During my free time I like to read poems and books and also write about everything. Writing is a way to express myself. I usually write the best when I am mad at something or that I think something is unfair. I am involved in different clubs that helps my school and my community. I am always willing to help someone because I think if I do not aid someone who will. Finally, I hope my life will have a good impact on another. I met so many people that influence me and encourage me. But the two people, that have always been present for me and will always be, are parents. They have shown me the right way in direction to a successful present and future. They have given me everything they have, including love. I think that they are the people that inspire me the most. I admire them because they started with nothing and became a nurse and an anesthetic nurse. I am proud of them and hope that they are proud of me. I wish to make them even prouder as I grow up. To end this writing, I wanted to share my goal and tell you hopefully how my future will look like. I want to be veterinarian even if I know the journey is long and hazardous. First, I need to graduate from high school and then enter in a college for 4 years to earn different science and math credit. It will probably be Virginia Tech. And then, I will apply in a veterinarian school and study for 4 more years. I hope to have a scholarship for college, so I am working hard and doing my best. Finally, I will do my maximum to stay the same, have a bright future and make my parents proud.
